The last question was: “Where did the World Championship take place in 1942?”
“In Patagonia”, he answered.
The TV network said that it was not the correct answer because FIFA has never acknowledged such event.
Since then,he has been researching further and he is also trying to collect information and witnesses around the world who participated directly or indirectly to that edition of World Cup.

This is a letter in which the Nazi regime required that in case of defeat to the world of 1942, each evidence had to be destroyed.

Leonardo the anatomist.

Is there an end to Leonardo’s genius? The latest proof of his never-ending capabilities is on show at the Queen’s Gallery in London UK.

Leonardo da Vinci’s groundbreaking studies of the human body are on display in the largest ever exhibition of his anatomical work. The exhibition, which takes place almost 500 years after his death, features 87 pages from his notebook, including 27 sides of previously unexhibited material.

Even though Leonardo is recognised as one of the greatest artists of the Renaissance, he was one of the most original and perceptive anatomists of all time. The exhibition tells the story of his greatest challenge as he embarked upon a bloody campaign of dissection in hospitals and mortuaries to investigate the fabric of the human body. Had Leonardo’s studies been published, they would have formed the most influential work on the human body ever produced.
To coincide with the exhibition, a special iPad app, which reverses and translates the thousands of notes made by the artist in his distinctive mirror writing, reveal his words to a mass audience for the first time, bringing to life all 268 of Leonardo’s anatomical drawings in the Royal Collection.

As exhibition curator Martin Clayton said, “Leonardo’s drawings are among the finest depictions of the human body ever created. Had he published this work, he would now be known as one of the greatest scientists in history”. So is there an end to Leonardo’s genius? Apparently the answer is no.

Cutty Sark, a ship perfect for carrying tea, re-opens to the public on 26 April 2012.

For almost two centuries the magnificent Cutty Sark sailed across all seas of the world. Cutty Sark was built with iron frames, wooden planks and brass sheathing and was considered perfect for carrying tea by ship owners like John Willis. She made eight tea voyages, loading tea at Shanghai and Hankou and each time she picked up a cargo of around 600,000 kg of tea. On Cutty Sark’s first voyage she carried 10,335 chests, 1,790 half chests, 621 boxes and 2,256 packages. Her fastest journey to China was to Shanghai in 89 days, and her fastest journey home was 109 days from Hankou.

Cutty Sark used to spent at least one month in China and the whole voyage from London and back again could be 10 months or more. After sailing three times to China, Cutty Sark changed her route and she started to sail first to Sydney. The typical cargo in Australia was a 1,000 tons of coal. After picking the coal up in Sydney, she usually sailed to Shanghai, where tons of green tea where waiting to be traded. Cutty Sark unloaded her tea at the East India Dock, on the north bank of the Thames, about two miles downstream from where she is now. In 1869, the opening of the Suez Canal shortened the route from China by 3,000 miles and steamships could now reach London in only 60 days. The unfavorable winds in the Red Sea and the Mediterranean sea, made the Canal impracticable for sailing ships and they were gradually pushed out of the tea trade. In 1870 steamships started to dominate the tea trade. In 1895 the Cutty Sark was sadly sold to a Portuguese firm.

In 1938, after being restored, the Cutty Sark returned to the Greenhite and in 1957 she formerly opened to the public and became a memorial to the merchant service. In 2007, a terrible fire destroyed the fastest and greatest tea clipper of her time, but a long and complex work of restoration has now fully cancelled all the traces of the disastrous event occurred in 2007. Thus, on 25 April 2012 Her Majesty The Queen, accompanied by His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh, returned and re-launched the Cutty Sark, which is officially re-opened as an extraordinary monument to those that lost their lives in the merchant service.
Entirely rebuilt and at her best splendor than every time, the world’s most famous ship welcomes visitors who venture aboard and beneath. Tourists and local families with children can now walk along the decks in the footsteps of the merchant seamen who sailed her over a century ago. The decks offer gorgeous views and opportunities for taking groovy pictures in all directions, while an exploration of the hold let imagine how the precious cargo was stored on those epic voyages.

Inspired by the volcanic topography of Jeju island and the cocoon of a living organism, Seoul-based architectural practice, Planning Korea, completed their design for the Cocoon House, which is complemented with their amazing rendering techniques. The cocoon, located at the center of the house, provides a space made by nature that protects and develops inner living things from outside. The first phase of the construction will be started in September 2012 and will be completed in 2015.

Their cocoon design creates a space like an art piece by translating the round shape of cocoon as an eco-structure design. This seaside condominium provides a self-sustaining creative business resort located in UNESCO Heritage Jeju Island. The circular windows of the cocoon can be opened and closed depending on the indoor and outdoor temperature and humidity, so it seems like a live cocoon.

This is not a conventional resort for relaxation, but a self-sustaining resort that caters for both residential and business aspects. There are three different floor heights on the ground floor.
What have got in common an artist from space; an East London creatively led visual communication studio, a Jamaican beer with attitude and Edinburgh’s Newhaven fish market? No it isn’t the start of some famous Scottish joke. It is, in fact, the union of forces behind the latest Red Stripe sponsored art-venture.
The project, a stop-motion piece of great insight and beauty, wants to “explore the D.I.Y. experimental studio culture that Jamaica fostered in the 1970’s when Dub and Reggae projected a visionary sonic force onto the world stage”. It sees coming together the Edinburgh based artist Mike Inglis (a.k.a. Spaceboy 1966) and the renowned East-London studio Blac Ionica. Both parties have combined their efforts to create a piece of work with two lives, an artwork that embodies the spirit and the attitude it wants to celebrate and resembles, in its process, the D.I.Y. culture it wants to explore; and since this is a multilayered project, let’s look at it step by step.

The project’s groundwork has been laid by Mark Inglis (A.K.A. Spaceboy 1966). With the installation ‘Black Ark’, he has taken over the shutters of the old Edinburgh’s Newhaven fish market and attempted to transform the space into something else, a new shrine to the buzz and energy of the Jamaican way of life. With the help of paint, paper and a (few) red stripe(s), the artist formed the narrative backbone (frame-by-frame i.e. shutter-by-shutter) for the stop-motion animation to come, providing a direct link between the site and the studio culture he wants to celebrate. At the centre of the narrative there’s a four track reel to reel from where everything starts, completing the piece is a series of fishing boat skeletons evocating the spirit of the BLACK ARK, which is not only the name of the piece, but it was also the most progressive studio in Jamaican history. The fish market arches supply the roof to the shrine and the narrative, giving the installation that earnestness that comes from hard-working places and the direct tie to the ocean. The name ‘Black Ark’ does the rest, providing all the different layers of meaning that can be given to the word ark.

Even though the installation is a finished work of art in its own right, it was only the beginning. Once the shrine had been erected it needed to breathe new life. Enter Blac Ionica. The East London studio, together with Inglis, animated (in the true meaning of the word) the shutters, creating a new sensorial experience, a “comic in the street” piece of work that transformed the installation (and the site) into something else altogether. Add to the visuals the last layer needed, i.e. the true Jamaican sound of the 70’s and you’ve got yourself a winner.

In this day and age where contemporary art in galleries has become ephemeral, meaningless and enslaved to the economic powers ruling the marketplace, the streets are the place where real art can be seen again. Every piece of work needs to fulfil a brief, but great works of art don’t only do that, they also need to provide a social commentary to the place and times in which they exist by creating an emotional bond with the viewer. ‘Black Ark’ does all that. It goes beyond the Jamaican studio culture of the 70’s, it provides a direct connection to Newhaven’s fish market as it is today. The video is evocative of the backbreaking jobs of the harbour, the solemnity of the working class and all the activities taking place in a fish market. At the same time it provides that association to the sea and the faraway Jamaican shores, capturing the viewer’s imagination and leaving him or her wanting for more. So sit back and enjoy Edinburgh’s Newhaven harbour, as you’ve never experience it before. If you close your eyes, that red stripe, might actually take you to Jamaica.

Over the past week end, the Never Say Cool team got the opportunity to visit the Tortona Design Week, one on the best itineraries over the Fuori Salone Fair held in Milan.

2 things came up immediately walking around Tortona and Savona Street. First: the crisis affected a lot the design niche. We found quite a lot less installations than in the past years and there was quite less party feeling all around the fair. Second, a lot more designers have shown to be into eco-friendly design. Never like this year, there has been a trend toward using eco materials, such as recycled paper and biodegradable structures. Maybe this will involve a reduced duration of our new furniture but, if applied, this would be a big change for our planet.

In terms of creativity, installations included very nice furniture, and we also saw very nice experiments with augmented reality, lighting and video installations which made our visit rather enjoyable and less plain compared to the previous years.

Here are some highlights…

France Design

French design talents in Milan. The event showcased the rich diversity of French creators for contemporary living in ‘France Design’. This VIA exhibition-event – co-produced with media relations group LHLC Presse – brought together rising talents in French design in a single venue at Padiglione Visconti (via Tortona). 1200 square metres contained the VIA Creation Assistance Grants (Aides à la Création VIA), Monde Commun, a research exhibition mounted by 8 French art & design schools, Material Matters 2 by Particule14, and Les Editeurs, a round-up selection of French design producers. All told 150 prototypes, projects and new products were on show, created by confirmed and emerging talents.

Creative Space Serbia is the showcase of Serbian design promoted by SIEPA (Serbia Investment and Promotion Agency) which brings to Milan the spontaneity and innovation of a new generation of designers and their products for local manifacturers. Conceived as a metaphorical space station, launching new Serbian talents, energies and lifestyles into the international design scene, the 2012 edition was inspired by the theme of “Hanging Fiction”, an unprecedented design narrative for new ideas and projects.

Would you ever say that one of the best garages where you can get your old bike customized into a unique café racer motorcycle is in Spain? Then check out Café Racer Dreams a small company based in Madrid managed by Pedro Garcia,a graphic designer with the passion for metal sculptures.

Pedro Garcia Founder of CRD explains on an interview on Bike Shed:

The automotive world always attracted me so cars, and motorcycles in particular have been my great passion. Two years ago in 2010, after having gone through several jobs related to engines and the arts (in sculpture), I wanted to get a bike made from a single vintage motorcycle, so I tried several workshops in Spain, but at that time there was no-one out there who could give me what I wanted. It all started by accident. I started contacting people, I had many ideas clear in my mind and the rest was just putting together the pieces of the puzzle. I created my bike with the help of top professionals. I then wanted to do another concept bike, but my friend (initially my client) Miguel Olivares suggested that I try to make this dream my way of life.
CRD was born at a time that no one was betting on the concept of custom bikes. Now in Spain it seems that there are is a new “Dream Garage” born every day in every city. That’s good. It seems that people want to differentiate themselves, and custom builders can now give the public what I once did not have.
Our team is made up of the best professionals in each area, and are all based in our garage with Orlando Taborda and me.
I am happy, very happy, with the progress of each project. To see the result and to be happy with it is a blessing, and if the end customer is also 110% satisfied then the circle is closed, re-motivating me to build another, and another.”

If you have a slight hipster attitude we are sure you must know what the word lomography means.
No?Do the camera models Diana and Holga ring any bell?

Lomograpy is now a commercial trademark of Lomo AG, a manufacturer of lo-fi cameras inspired by a camera spotted by the two owners of the company.

When they stumbled upon the Lomo Kompakt Automat – a small, enigmatic Russian camera- mindlessly taking the shot from the hip and sometimes looking through the viewfinder, they were astounded with the mindblowing photos that it produced – the colours were vibrant, with deep saturation and vignettes that framed the shot – it was nothing like they had seen before! Upon returning home, friends wanted their own Lomo LC-A, igniting a new style of artistic experimental photography that we now know as Lomography!(Lomography.com)

They soon came back home to work out a contract for a global distribution of these amazing toy cameras, and they are continuing developing playful combinations of aesthetics and features.

Lomography is now considered an art movement. It is quite common to find shops, galleries, communities and competitions around the world with the aim to support this photography style.

Ironically, the disadvantages of a Lomo camera can be used to enhance the beauty of your pictures

Light Leaks

Mistakes:Double Exposure Shot

Plastic Lense

You are probably wondering how much this hobby would cost you?The price of the cameras ranges from $30 to $200 for a complete kit with flash, and you must consider also the processing/printing costs, which are now relatively expensive. In our experience, it could be a luxurious past-time, as the number of decent pictures you will get at the end of the film would be very low(at least until you master the right skills).
So is it still worthy, especially when you are using those simple and playful smartphone applications?
Have your say..
